Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan was fought by some of the bravest men and women in America. Many of these veterans signed up after the 9/11 terrorist attacks to preserve freedom and order in the world and to protect our homeland. Lots of these brave men and women have had a tough time since they came home.
Are National Guard Members Eligible?
To be considered active duty the National Guard member or Armed Forces Reservist must have been activated by the federal government. A National Guard member or Armed Forces Reservist who served in Afghanistan or Iraq is considered to have been active duty and are entitled to VA Veterans Disability Benefits. If a National Guard member and Armed Forces Reservist was activated by their governor to help with a natural disaster they are unfortunately not considered active duty and are not entitled to VA Veterans Disability Benefits.
Many Afghanistan Veterans Were Exposed To Toxic Burn Pits.
Waste products in burn pits include things such as paint, chemicals, metal and aluminum cans, medical and human waste, plastics, rubber, wood, Styrofoam, discarded food and much more. Veterans who were exposed to burn pit smoke or worked close to them may be at greater risk for damage to their health.
