What is the BVA?
The Board of Veterans Appeals (BVA) is located in Washington, D.C. Members of the Board review benefit claims determinations made by local VA offices and issue decision on appeals. These Law Judges, attorneys experienced in veterans law and in reviewing benefit claims, are the only ones who can issue Board decisions.
Why do I have to appeal to the BVA?
Appealing to the BVA is the next step after receiving your initial decision from a Regional Office (RO). If you disagree with the RO’s decision, you should appeal to the BVA. You only have a limited amount of time to file an appeal. If you allow the appeal period to collapse, you will have to reapply altogether.
